HISPANIC BUSINESS PUBLICATION NAMES MGM MIRAGE AMONG TOP COMPANIES FOR DIVERSITY
Gaming company recognized by Latin Business magazine
LAS VEGAS – August 28, 2008 - In recognition of the company's outreach to the Hispanic community, Latin Business magazine named MGM MIRAGE to its third annual "2008 Corporate Diversity Honor Roll." MGM MIRAGE, one of 13 recognized companies, is the only gaming company on the list.
To determine this year's "Honor Roll," Latin Business evaluated companies that had received diversity recognition from other publications and organizations. Participants were surveyed on Hispanic and minority representation at all levels of employment, supplier diversity programs and minority outreach, retention, promotion and marketing efforts.
According to MGM MIRAGE's 2007 Annual Diversity Report, minority employees represented more than half of the total workforce at 60.8 percent. Hispanics comprised nearly half of that at 29.3 percent and 12 percent of the positions at the manager level and above. In supplier diversity, MGM MIRAGE spent more than $254 million with minority enterprises. Of that, 26.9 percent was spent with Hispanic-owned businesses. In construction diversity, MGM MIRAGE spent more than $362 million with minority contractors, of which close to one fourth (24.1 percent) went to Hispanic firms.
MGM MIRAGE offers advanced training and development programs designed to recruit and retain Hispanic employees. The company has also established partnerships with numerous national and local organizations that support the Hispanic business community such as the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility and the National Council of La Raza.
